Beauty of Natural Stone

Most people, when they think of granite, believe that it is the ideal surface material. It is true that granite does a fairly good job of resisting staining, but still it is porous and does require frequent sealing. granite is a natural material with a variegated surface appearance, which provides it’s unique character which can vary drastically depending upon where in the world it comes from.

One of the biggest concerns we hear is “granite has to be sealed”. Since it is a natural stone it is indeed pourous. There are various types of sealers on the market that require very little effort to apply, typically with a sponge or rag and a few minutes of your time. Frequency of cleaning and usage will determine how often you have to re-seal.

Surface Appearance of Granite
Because granite is a natural material, it does have a variegated surface appearance.
It can be speckled or mottled, and even different granite tiles from the same box can differ substantially.

Granite Strength Ratings
One thing to note about purchasing granite is that natural stone does not receive strength ratings, So granite does vary in strength. That is why you will typically find thicker granite —usually 3/8 inch thick or even thicker.

Granite Installation
Granite countertop installation does not have to use thin-set mortar. Simply lay the slab or top on clear silicone caulking or a liquid nails product. When finished, just wipe surface clean. Your produce will already be sealed, for any reason based on types of cleaning materials used on the surface you may need to apply sealer across the entire surface (you may need to apply several coats to fill all cracks).
